Divisions and Eligibility
Please note:
Tournament is open to all eligible teams on a first-come, first-served basis with preference given to teams which have participated in the immediate past year's tournament. Once division slots are filled, no other teams will be accepted. Please make note of deadline dates and entry fee information. All fees are due in US Dollars.
NACBA Membership Fee
- NACBA Fee is non-refundable and will be utilized to cover NACBA expenses throughout the year.
- All teams who did not participate in 2022 event are subject to a $150 NACBA fee. (Not transferable)
- For the teams who took part in the 2022 event, the NACBA membership fee is only $50. (Not transferable)
$200 Refundable Deposit
Will cover the team’s adherence to the following: Stay and Play policy and work team assignments. Deposits will be returned 2-4 weeks after the conclusion of the tournament.
Note: once registration is paid (entry fees and security deposits) and confirmed, no refunds will be given due to a change in the team’s ability to participate. Because there are a limited number of spots available in each division, your acceptance to play in the tournament affects those teams who are interested in participating but can not be accepted because there are no spots available.
Mens Open Division (top division)
$700 Entry Fee, Plus NACBA fee ($50/$150), Plus $200 Refundable Deposit
Description: TEAM THUNDER took top honors in 2022 and showed why they will be tough to beat in 2023.
Competition should come from runners-up, the Boston Knights, and stalwarts such as the New York Rockits, Metro Elite, and other rising teams or returning teams.
Eligibility: Open to all participants of direct Chinese descent. Participants must be at least 25% Chinese (at least one grandparent must be 100% Chinese). Players born in calendar year 2007 or before.
- All participants must be at least 16 years old and can play for only one team throughout the tournament.
- Maximum team roster of 12 players.
- At the tournament, all participants must be able to present official photo identification passport, birth certificate, driver's license, etc.) which proves their age and/or nationality. If a protest is lodged, the burden of proof is on each player to prove eligibility. Players should bring original copies of parents/grandparents documentation as verification if they feel that their eligibility will be challenged. Failure to do so will result in the player(s) disqualification from the tournament.
- Use of ineligible players will result in forfeiture of all games played and additional sanctions including, but not limited to, team disqualification from the tournament.
Format: 8-16 teams.
- The NACBA will select 8-16 teams from the pool of Men’s Open teams to compete in the highest division of the tournament. Teams will be selected based on their previous performance(s) at the NACBAIT and NACBA approved events.
- The final four teams from the 2022 OPEN division are automatically guaranteed a spot in this division.
- Teams not selected for the Men's Open Division can compete in the Men's Friendship division.
- The top two teams from the 2022 Friendship Division can advance automatically to play in the Men’s Open division.
- Each team is guaranteed to play in a minimum of 4 games throughout the tournament.
- After initial round robin group play, teams from each group will advance into either the playoff round or consolation round.
- 18 minutes per half, 3 timeouts per game, NACBA/NCAA/HIGH SCHOOL modified rules apply; all other rules to be announced at a later date.
- All games officiated by IAABO certified referees
- Semifinal and Championship Games to be played on Monday
Mens Friendship Division
$700 Entry Fee, Plus NACBA fee ($50/$150), Plus $200 Refundable Deposit
Description: A recreation division for teams who still are somewhat competitive. Teams which once competed in the Men’s Open division may move down to this division. It’s also a perfect opportunity for teams moving up from the Boys 18u division after their eligibility is exhausted. In 2022, fourteen teams came to play with Markham FCCM capturing the title by defeating the Montreal Kaitas in the championship game. 2023 is sure to bring teams looking for their chance at a NACBA championship.
Eligibility: Open to all participants of direct Chinese descent. Participants must be at least 25% Chinese (at least one grandparent must be 100% Chinese). Players born in calendar year 2007 or before
- All participants must be at least 16 years old and can play for only one team throughout the tournament.
- Maximum team roster of 12 players.
- At the tournament, all participants must be able to present official photo identification passport, birth certificate, driver's license, etc.) which proves their age and/or nationality. If a protest is lodged, the burden of proof is on each player to prove eligibility. Players should bring original copies of parents/grandparents documentation as verification if they feel that their eligibility will be challenged. Failure to do so will result in the player(s) disqualification from the tournament.
- Use of ineligible players will result in forfeiture of all games played and additional sanctions including, but not limited to, team disqualification from the tournament.
Format: 8-16 teams.
- The NACBA will select from 8-16 teams from its pool of teams with preference given to those who have participated previously and those who qualify in terms of competitiveness. Teams which are over qualified or not selected may have an opportunity to register for the Men’s Open division.
- Each team is guaranteed to play in a minimum of 3 games throughout the tournament.
- After initial round robin group play, teams from each group will advance into either the playoff round or consolation round.
- 18 minutes per half, 3 timeouts per game, NACBA/NCAA/HIGH SCHOOL modified rules apply; all other rules to be announced at a later date.
- All games officiated by IAABO certified referees.
- Semifinal and Championship games to be played on Monday
Mens 35+ Division
$700 Entry Fee, Plus NACBA fee ($50/$150), Plus $200 Refundable Deposit
Description: It’s the inaugural 35+ division. For those players who have competed in the Men’s Open and Friendship divisions in the past who still love to play the game.
Eligibility: Open to all participants of direct Chinese descent. Participants must be at least 25% Chinese (at least one grandparent must be 100% Chinese) with the following exception:
- All participants must be born in calendar year 1988 or before and can only play for one team throughout the tournament.
- Maximum team roster of 12 players.
- At the tournament, all participants must be able to present official photo identification passport, birth certificate, driver's license, etc.) which proves their age and/or nationality. If a protest is lodged, the burden of proof is on each player to prove eligibility. Players should bring original copies of parents/grandparents documentation as verification if they feel that their eligibility will be challenged. Failure to do so will result in the player(s) disqualification from the tournament.
- Use of ineligible players will result in forfeiture of all games played and additional sanctions including, but not limited to, team disqualification from the tournament.
Format: 4-8 teams,
Each team is guaranteed to play in a minimum of 3 games throughout the tournament.

Men's Senior 40+ Division
$700 Entry Fee, Plus NACBA fee ($50/$150), Plus $200 Refundable Deposit
Description: After a brief hiatus in 2022, hopes are high that this division will be resurrected in 2023. In 2019, after several years of hard work, Vintage NYC claimed its first 40+ championship. They will be looking to repeat in 2023.
Eligibility: Open to all participants of direct Chinese descent. Participants must be at least 25% Chinese (at least one grandparent must be 100% Chinese) with the following exception:
- All participants must be born in calendar year 1988 or before and can only play for one team throughout the tournament.
- Maximum team roster of 12 players.
- At the tournament, all participants must be able to present official photo identification passport, birth certificate, driver's license, etc.) which proves their age and/or nationality. If a protest is lodged, the burden of proof is on each player to prove eligibility. Players should bring original copies of parents/grandparents documentation as verification if they feel that their eligibility will be challenged. Failure to do so will result in the player(s) disqualification from the tournament.

Mens Master 45+ Division

Description: In 2022, the Toronto CCYAA captured their 3rd straight championship and will look to 4-peat in 2023.
Eligibility: Open to all participants of direct Chinese descent. Participants must be at least 25% Chinese (at least one grandparent must be 100% Chinese) with the following exception:
- All participants born in calendar year 1978 or before are eligible
- Rule #15 Player Exception: Eligible player(s) in the 55+ division can also participate in the
in this division. Each team is allowed to add no more than 3 players total who are also participating in the 55+ division. Note, no player may participate in more than two divisions or two teams. If you have any questions about this exception, contact the Tournament Committee.- Maximum team roster of 12 players.

Description: In 2022, the Toronto CCYAA captured their 3rd straight championship and will look to 4-peat in 2023.
Eligibility: Open to all participants of direct Chinese descent. Participants must be at least 25% Chinese (at least one grandparent must be 100% Chinese) with the following exception:
- All participants born in calendar year 1978 or before are eligible
- Rule #15 Player Exception: Eligible player(s) in the 55+ division can also participate in the in this division. Mens Grand Masters 55+ Division – Inaugural
$700 Entry Fee, Plus NACBA fee ($50/$150), Plus $200 Refundable Deposit
Description: In 2022, Toronto CCYAA captured the inaugural championship. This division is for those who still love to hoop it up, hang out with friends, and renew friendships. There’s no reason to stop doing what you love to do.
Eligibility: Open to all participants of direct Chinese descent. Participants must be at least 25% Chinese (at least one grandparent must be 100% Chinese) with the following exception:
- All participants born in calendar year 1968 or before are eligible.
- Maximum team roster of 12 players.
- At the tournament, all participants must be able to present official photo identification passport, birth certificate, driver's license, etc.) which proves their age and/or nationality. If a protest is lodged, the burden of proof is on each player to prove eligibility. Players should bring original copies of parents/grandparents documentation as verification if they feel that their eligibility will be challenged. Description: In 2022, Lunar NYC took top honors. Hopes are high that they bring that same energy & excitement to Clermont County in 2023 to defend their title. Challenges should come from past champions, Vancouver Strathcona and the Toronto Warriors.
Eligibility: Open to all participants of direct Chinese descent. Participants must be at least 25% Chinese (at least one grandparent must be 100% Chinese). Players born in calendar year 2007 or before.
- All participants must be at least 16 years old and can play for only one team throughout the tournament.

Description: This division is ideal for newly formed teams, Girls 18u teams or teams on the rise prior to moving up to the women’s open. Either way, this division is about making friends and playing some hoops at the same time. Past winners include Vancouver Strathcona, NY Lady Rockits and Toronto CCYAA.
Eligibility: Open to all participants of direct Chinese descent. Participants must be at least 25% Chinese (at least one grandparent must be 100% Chinese)
- All participants must be at least 13 years old and can play for only one team throughout the tournament.

Description: The opportunity for those who are still new to the game to compete and experience the tournament.
Eligibility: Open to all participants of direct Chinese descent. Participants must be at least 25% Chinese (at least one grandparent must be 100% Chinese). Players born in calendar year 2004 or after.
- All participants must be a minimum of 13 years old
- Rule #15 Player Exception: Eligible player(s) in the Girls 18u division can also participate in the
in Women’s Open or Women’s Liberty division. Each Women’s Open/Liberty team is allowed to add no more than 3 players total who are also participating in the Girls 18u division. If you have any questions about this exception, contact the Tournament Committee.- Maximum team roster of 12 players.

Description: This division looks to be the bridge for 18u players/teams prior to their move up to the Men’s Friendship and Open divisions. We look forward to seeing many of these young rising stars hoop it up.
Eligibility: Open to all participants of direct Chinese descent. Participants must be at least 25% Chinese (at least one grandparent must be 100% Chinese) with the following exception:
- All participants must be born in calendar year 2000 or after and can only play for one team throughout the tournament.
- Rule #15 Player Exception: Eligible player(s) in the in the Boys 18u division can also participate in the in this division. Each team is allowed to add no more than 3 players total who are also participating in the 18-under division. If you have any questions about this exception, contact the Tournament Committee.
- Maximum team roster of 12 players.

Description: The Boys Junior 18 and under division is one of the toughest to win as it is littered with rising young high school ballers with “GAME”. In 2022, Lunar NYC captured the B18u Championship and will look to repeat in 2023. Who will rise to the challenge?
Eligibility: Open to all participants of direct Chinese descent. Participants must be at least 25% Chinese (at least one grandparent must be 100% Chinese). Players born in calendar year 2004 or after.
- All participants can only play for one team throughout the tournament.
- Rule #15 Player Exception: Eligible player(s) in the Boys 18u division can also participate in the University division. Each team in the University division is allowed to add no more than 3 players total who are also participating in the 18-under division. - Maximum team roster of 12 players.

Description: BUCKETS!!! In 2022, the NY Titans captured the championship. They will look to repeat in 2023. Who will challenge them for the title?
Eligibility: Open to all participants of direct Chinese descent. Participants must be at least 25% Chinese (at least one grandparent must be 100% Chinese). Players born in calendar year 2007 or after.
- All participants can play for only one team during this tournament.
- Maximum team roster of 12 players.
